On November 26th, the project “Associated agriculture for long-term income stabilization of ethnic minorities and equal integration in community development in Vietnam” (BMZ project) funded by The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and World Vision Deutschland, organized a meeting to share experiences in diseases prevention and repopulation with veterinary staff at district, commune and village levels.

Overview of the meeting

The meeting was chaired by the Center for Agricultural Technology of Nam Giang district, Quảng Nam province with the participation of 21 people who are veterinary staff in 05 communes and town of Thạnh Mỹ, Cà Dy, Tà Bhing, Tà Pơơ and Chà Vàl and representatives from the the Center for Agricultural Technology, the WV Regional Office and the Center for Rural Development in  Central Vietnam (CRD).

At the meeting, Mr. Đào Văn Trúc, the expert of the Sub-Department of Animal Health presented legal documents on breeding regulations and guidelines for pig repopulation. Mr. Trúc provided guidances on the organization and implementation of disease prevention including African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease.

Mr. Phạm Bảo Hoài, Deputy Head of the Animal Science & Health Division, the Sub-Department of Animal Health of  Quảng Nam province also gave more guidances on classification of slaughter facilitities and slaughter process. Participants at the meeting discussed about this content and their questions were satisfactorily anwered by the provincial Sub-Department of Animal Health and the  Center for Agricultural Technology.

Also in the meeting, the provincial Sub-Department of Animal Health and the Center for Agricultural Technology gave clear intructions for  the participants to implement farm biosecurity. The participants were divided into groups, discussed about the model and designed models based on their own understanding. The groups in turn presented their models and received feedbacks from the expert team.

All participants, especially veterinary staff in the communes and district were provided with useful information and regulations in relation to animal farming and farm biosecurity.

This activity was carried out by CRD and World Vision Vietnam within the framework of the BMZ project with the target to “Improve the livelihood of local farmers through developing black pig value chains and enhance the participation of ethnic minority communities in the project”. The project has been implemented in 5 communes and town of Nam Giang district, Quảng Nam province for 3 years from November 2019 to September 2022./.
