Natural Forest Regeneration and Supplementary Planting in A Luoi 1 commune, Hue city

On December 7 and 10, 2025,  Natural forest regeneration activities combined with the supplementary planting of Myxopyrum smilacifolium (Xuyên đá Ginseng) were implemented in A Luoi 1 commune, Hue city, under the framework of the project “Promoting the Conservation of Indigenous Medicinal Plants Associated with Livelihood Improvement for Ethnic Minority Women in the A Luoi Region.” The activity aims to establish a concentrated raw material area for Myxopyrum smilacifolium under the community forest canopy, contributing to the diversification of livelihoods for households participating in forest management and protection.

The activity was carried out on an area of approximately 4.1 hectares of community forest—where around 2,000 wild Myxopyrum smilacifolium plants are currently growing—belonging to the communities of A Tia 1 village, group 2 of A Tia 2 village and groups 1 and 2 of Đút 1 village. Local residents manually cleared underbrush around the base of the plants, mainly removing vines and dense thickets to create favorable conditions for natural growth and regeneration.

In parallel with forest regeneration, the communities planted a total of 9,100 supplementary Myxopyrum smilacifolium plants, including 8,300 newly planted trees and 800 replacement plants. Each community organized two rounds of caretaking and forest patrolling, demonstrating a proactive spirit and a high sense of responsibility in natural resource management.

Through the implementation process, local people have become increasingly aware of the role of Myxopyrum smilacifolium in enhancing forest biodiversity and generating a future supplementary source of income for at least 87 participating households. The communities also committed to intensifying patrols and focusing on the care of the regenerated area, regarding this as the foundation for sustainable livelihoods linked with forest conservation.

Sharing at the activity, Mr. Hồ Văn Hất, Head of the Community Forest Management Board of group 2, Đút 1 village, stated that the project has helped the community gain a clearer understanding of the value and economic potential of Myxopyrum smilacifolium, while providing further motivation to strengthen forest management and protection and curb overexploitation.
