Within the framework of the project “Promoting the conservation of native medicinal plants associated with the livelihoods improvement for ethnic minority women in mountainous areas”, in early August 2026, the Centre for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD), in coordination with the women-managed community nursery group, organized and implemented a series of field activities in A Tia 1 village, A Luoi 1 commune, Hue city.
This implementation phase focused on perfecting the nursery’s technical infrastructure, treating the soil and preparing seedling bags to serve the propagation of high economic value medicinal plants, including Sarcandra glabra (sói rừng), Myxopyrum smilacifolium (sâm xuyên đá), and Ampelopsis cantoniensis (chè dây).
The activity recorded active community participation with the proportion of women reaching over 80%. The female workforce played a core role in direct technical stages such as soil preparation, bag filling, and seedling care. The smooth coordination among female members (handling the main tasks), male members (supporting heavy technical work), and CRD experts (providing professional advice) affirmed the leadership role and capacity of highland women in natural resource management.
Ms. Ho Thi Giang – Leader of the A Tia 1 nursery group, shared: “The local people are very excited and have trust in the project’s direction. Proactively propagating precious medicinal plant species not only helps conserve the forest resources of our homeland but also opens up opportunities to enhance income and stabilize lives for the participating households.”
In general, all work items in this implementation phase proceeded smoothly, achieving 100% of the progress and quality according to the plan committed to the donor. This is an important prerequisite for the community nursery to enter the stage of monitoring germination rates in the following months.
