ANNUAL REPORT 2022

Warm greetings to donors, partners and readers!

The year 2022 was considered a year of “polycrisis” worldwide, with severe instabilities regarding the economy, energy, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. In Vietnam, the post-COVID-19 economic crisis, combined with the increasingly complex and erratic nature of natural disasters that caused numerous negative impacts on people’s lives, especially vulnerable groups including the poor, ethnic minorities, women and children.

Amidst these numerous challenges, in 2022, the Centre for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD) continued to mobilize resources and implement projects to support vulnerable groups. CRD effectively implemented 09 projects across 07 provinces/cities, focusing on 03 core fields: (1) Sustainable livelihood development; (2) Natural resource governance and biodiversity conservation; and (3) Climate change adaptation and disaster risk management. The projects achieved many positive outcomes, contributing to improving the lives of vulnerable groups, mitigating risks in the context of climate change, and at the same time contributing to enhancing forest quality and biodiversity.

Livelihood models such as black pig farming or non-timber forest product cultivation under natural forest canopies contributed to increasing local people’s income. The construction and development of product distribution channels, product traceability implementation, quality certification, and enhancing the operational efficiency of cooperatives contributed to fulfilling the criteria of the local New Rural Development program. The capacity of communities—especially ethnic minority communities—in forest management, protection and development was continuously improved, leading to better protection of forest areas allocated to community management. Native forestry species and non-timber forest products were conserved and developed, contributing to enriching forests and increasing biodiversity. Capacity-building activities on community-based disaster and climate risk management strengthened the resilience to climate change impacts for vulnerable coastal communities in Vietnam. Good practices on child labor prevention were promoted, contributing to an effectiveness of child protection in coffee production areas.

CRD would like to express its sincere gratitude to our donors, government agencies, partner organizations, colleagues, beneficiary communities, and especially the dedicated staff of CRD for trusting and accompanying CRD to achieve the outstanding results mentioned above. Although we have made great efforts and meaningful contributions, vulnerable groups still face many difficulties and challenges, requiring continued support to overcome them. We hope to continue receiving supports from our partners to make even greater contributions to the community and society in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Director of CRD

Truong Quang Hoang
