Dear partners, donors, readers, and colleagues,
The Centre for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD), affiliated with the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, was established in 1995. CRD operates across various fields, including: Sustainable Livelihoods and Agriculture; Natural Resource and Environmental Management; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management and an Affective Local Governance in the Central provinces, mainly Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai.
In 2018, CRD implemented numerous research, training, technology transfe, policy advocacy activities to fulfill its mission of building capacity for local people and stakeholders in agricultural production development, environmental protection and promoting equity for vulnerable communities.
CRD has made significant contributions to society and has been highly appreciated by donors, state management agencies, local authorities, partner organizations, and beneficiaries. Specifically:
– Supported the development of various sustainable agro-forestry production models, reducing forest dependency and contributing to improving the livelihoods of people in remote areas. The Centre helped several communities, particularly ethnic minorities, build brand identity for certain products, while connecting and introducing these products to supermarket shelves.
– Enhanced capacity and helped communities proactively coordinate with competent authorities in forest management and protection. The Centre raised awareness among civil society organizations and local authorities to ensure thorough preparation for monitoring the implementation of Vietnam’s Timber Legality Assurance System.
– Built capacity in disaster risk management and climate change adaptation, while providing technical consultancy to assist 23 coastal communes in Thanh Hoa and Quang Nam provinces in assessing disaster risks and formulating local disaster risk management and climate change response plans.
– Contributed to preventing physical and emotional punishment against children and promoted positive discipline parenting practices. The Centre fostered the cooperation and participation of civil society organizations in the Central Network for Children’s Rights Governance. CRD improved a capacity regarding to the prevention of physical and emotional punishment, social accountability, skills for working with children, and project monitoring and evaluation for civil society organizations and communities in the Central provinces. The Centre supported local communities in establishing a non-violent environment for children through their own initiatives, while promoting non-discrimination and building a safe, friendly environment for children.
We hope that the 2018 Annual Report will provide you with a comprehensive picture of the Centre’s activities and social contributions throughout the past year.
