Dear partners, donors, readers, and colleagues,
The Centre for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD), affiliated with the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, was established in 1995 with the mission of serving agricultural and rural development, primarily in the Central provinces. Over the past 24 years, CRD has operated actively, continuously innovated and created, gradually asserting itself as a professional organization in the development sector with a strong reputation both domestically and internationally. CRD’s contributions to society have always been highly appreciated by donors, state management agencies, local authorities, partner organizations, and beneficiaries.
In 2019, CRD implemented 09 projects across 09 provinces, consisting of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Dong Nai, and Lao Cai. Key activities focused on training, technology transfer, research, and policy advocacy.
CRD’s activities made practical contributions to communities in project areas, particularly the poor and vulnerable groups. Direct beneficiaries of CRD’s activities over the past year included small enterprises, individual business households, poor farmers—mainly ethnic minorities—and especially rural children in remote areas.
CRD’s outstanding contributions over the past year include: Improving income for people in mountainous areas, thereby reducing their livelihoods’ dependency on forest resources; enhancing the capacity and awareness of officials and local people in forest management and protection; equipping small enterprises and individual business households in the timber sector with a clear understanding of VPA/FLEGT content and thorough preparation to readily join the legal timber supply chain; providing vulnerable coastal communities with sufficient knowledge and skills to better manage and respond to natural disasters and climate change; capacity building for civil society organizations partnering with CRD, enabling them to actively support local communities, businesses in production, environmental protection and other social work activities such as child protection and gender equality.
We hope that the 2019 Annual Report will provide you with a comprehensive overview of CRD’s activities and social contributions.
On behalf of the leadership and staff of CRD, I would like to express my deep gratitude to donors, state management agencies, partner organizations, colleagues and beneficiaries for their enthusiastic cooperation and support in helping CRD successfully accomplish its tasks in 2019. We are looking forward about dedicated support and companionship of all stakeholders to make even greater contributions to the community and society in the coming year.
Sincerely,
Director of CRD
Truong Quang Hoang
