Climate Change and Climate-Smart Agriculture Quiz Competition and Its Impactful Legacy

The quiz competition themed “Understanding Climate Change and Climate-Smart Agriculture”, held last November in A Luoi District, attracted enthusiastic participation and strong interest from the local community. The event was co-organized by the A Luoi District Women’s Union and the Center for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD) – department of Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry with funding from the International Climate Initiative (IKI) through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The program welcomed prominent delegates from local leadership and partner organizations. Representing A Luoi District were Mr. Le Van Thien, Deputy Head of the District Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization Commission; Ms. Nguyen Thi Niet, Standing Member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of A Luoi District; alongside representatives from various district departments and mass organizations. Also present were Ms. Le Thi Quynh Tuong, District Party Committee Member and President of the A Luoi District Women’s Union and Mr. Truong Quang Hoang, Director of CRD. Their strong turnout highlights the high level of interest in climate change and smart agricultural practice in today’s context.

The competition featured three teams from Hong Thuong and A Roang communes, representing differrent ethnic minority communities. Participants tackled 15 questions covering climate change and smart agricultural solutions designed to adapt to increasingly severe environmental impacts. By tailoring the content to be relatable and easy to digest, the organizers equipped locals with practical knowledge, significantly boosting awareness of climate change and climate-smart agriculture.

The vibrant atmosphere extended far beyond the stage to the audience during the interactive word-guessing segment. Local attendees demonstrated impressive knowledge and enthusiasm, answering many questions quickly and accurately. It shows that understanding of climate change and smart agriculture is genuinely taking root in community life—a result of persistent communication and outreach efforts by organizations like CRD and the Women’s Union.

More than just an educational contest, the event served as a space for community bonding, cultural preservation and connection. Through creative and dynamic delivery, the quiz balanced learning with entertainment, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.

The success of the program not only affirms the effectiveness of community-based models in raising awareness of climate change, but also paves the way for similar initiatives in other communities. CRD and the A Luoi District Women’s Union are confident that the knowledge and values shared through this competition will continue to spread, inspiring local people to proactively adapt to climate change and apply climate-smart agricultural techniques in their daily lives.

Furthermore, the event marks a meaningful step forward in strengthening partnerships among local organizations, authorities, and communities. Supported by its donors, CRD remains committed to accompanying local authorities in bringing more impactful programs to life—equipping communities with knowledge while empowering them to turn sustainable initiatives into action. Small efforts today promise transformative change in the future, building a resilient community ready to face global climate challenges.
