On June 28, the Center for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD) coordinated with Thua Thien Hue Association for Protection of Child’s Rights and A Luoi District People’s Committee to organize a contest on children’s rights with the theme of “Join hands for poor and ethnic minority children; drowning prevention for children; prevention of violence and sexual abuse against children” for children of Children’s Teams in several communes in A Luoi district.
This activity is within the framework of the project “Strengthening the Capacity of Civil Society Organizations on Child Rights Governance” funded by Save the Children. The contest created an intellectual playground for children to show their understanding on the Children Law 2016, knowledge of drowning prevention by taking the quiz. In addition, 5 competition teams proved to the judges their understanding on issues related to prevention of physical and mental punishment in the contest of eloquence. They confidently showed their opinions and expressed their expectations about the above-mentioned issues. At the end of the contest, the Children’s Team of Hong Thuong commune was honored to receive the first prize in the eloquence section with solutions to deal with violence issues in family, school and society.
At the end of the training session, a sharing from Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hoa, Thua Thien Hue Association for Protection of Child’s Rights was reported “The contest on understanding children’s rights is really a rewarding and exciting activity for children in the mountainous communes of A Luoi district where development opportunities, particularly the access to health, education, protection and care services, and social welfare for children are much lower than those of urban and plain areas.”
