The instructor of the training was Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Minh, former Head of the Voice of Vietnam’s Youth and Children’s Department, Head of the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights’ Communication Department. The training attracted 24 participants from both civil society organizations and governmental agencies in 5 Central provinces and cities, namely Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Danang and Quang Nam.

“I am a long-time children’s activist, yet this is the first time I have attended a comprehensive training course on the prevention of all forms of PHP”, said Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, official of Da Nang Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

According to Tran Thi Thanh Tam (CSRD), in the two-day training, the trainees learnt thoroughly about children and their developmental stages by age. They also studied the tips and techniques for effective working with children.

Additionally, the training focused on providing background knowledge and enhancing problem-solving skills through hands-on exercises to consolidate learners’ knowledge of the Convention on the rights of the child, the Vietnam Law on Children 2016 and other PHP-related legal documents. Preventive measures of PHP and support or interventions to children in each specific case and circumstance have been discussed and shared among the participants.

At the end of the course, lecturer Nguyen Thi Lan Minh revealed: “All the participants have shown their enthusiasm and dedication during the course. I do believe that when they go back to work from the course, they can confidently develop action plans “for” children and” with” children, thereby reducing the risks of child abuse and step by step eliminating physical and humiliating punishment on children.
