A sustainable rural society, where no poverty exists and people act responsibly toward the environment

On December 27, 2021, in Buon Ma Thuot city, the Centre for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD) in cooperation with the Youth Union of Dak Lak province to organize the award ceremony of the contest “Understanding Child Rights and Prevention of Child Labor in coffee sourcing sector”. The ceremony was held online to comply with the local regulations on Covid-19 prevention.

The award ceremony was held online in the office of Dak Lak provincial Youth Union and three other bridge points in Cu M’Gar, Krong Nang districts and Buon Ho town. The contest has brought about the great opportunity for students to share their understanding, attitude, expectation and positive messages for the protection of child rights, especially the prevention of child labor. Despite being held in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, the contest has received approximately 500 writing entries, over 700 paintings and more than 300 videos and clips. Through pictures, writings, and short clips, students have shown their expectation and delivered their messages about a beautiful world for children where children have rights to live well, to be protected and develop themselves safely.

Out of a total of nearly 1500 entries in three categories, the organizers selected three first prizes, six second prizes; eight third prizes, and fifteen consolation prizes.

In the drawing category, the first prize went to Y Jan Kbuor, class 6A5, Ngo Quyen Secondary School, Buon Ho Town. In the writing category, Dau Thi Tuong Vi, class 5A, Be Van Dan Primary School, Krong Nang district won the first prize. And in the category of video and clip, Ngo Quyen Lower Secondary School, Buon Ho town won the first prize and Doan Thi Diem Lower Secondary School, Cu M’Gar district was chosen as the best collective.

Mr. Tran Doan Toi, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union spoke at the ceremony: “This is a meaningful activity that creates optimal conditions for children to promote their creativity when they have to study online at home in the pandemic. With the desire to create more useful and interesting playgrounds, the contest is an extremely favorable first step for us and other units to coordinate in organizing more contests on children’s rights, contributing to put the Law on Children into practice”.

Also in the award ceremony, the winners shared their feelings when they won the prizes and wished that the adult can promote the implementation of child rights in the province.

On behalf of the organization board, Mrs. Dang Thi Lan Anh, the coordinator of the project “Child’s rights in coffee sourcing sector” said “Although the contest has come to an end, the messages like “Join hands to protect children”, “Say no to child labor” continue to be spread in schools and communities.”

The contest was an activity within the framework of the project “Child’s rights in coffee sourcing sector” funded by the Lavazza Group and Save the Children Italy and implemented by Save the Children Vietnam in collaboration with CRD and the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Dak Lak province.
